Gaming Backlog

Wanted to write a little about my Steam backlog just to kind of put in writing which games I am intending to continue.  I will also rank them based on how much I enjoy them.  Hopefully you will find it useful if you are thinking of trying any of the games I have already tried.

Will be playing again for sure:

1) Sid Meier's Civilization V - (66 hours sounds a little low) I played this quite a bit when I first got it.  I think I won starting on the low levels but have had trouble winning on King setting I believe.  This is my first time playing the Civilization series and feel that I have been really missing out.  Great game if you don't have it I definitely recommend it.

2) The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - (19 hours) I have been really enjoying this game.  The story is very good and I enjoy the fighting style.  I am playing on Easy (I think) and once and awhile I still die so I would imagine it is really challenging on the higher levels.  (Plan to play again)

3) Dota 2 - (2 hours)Downloaded this during Beta but didn't have time to play.  The last couple of Wednesday nights (my game night) I have been getting through the tutorial missions and have been really enjoying it.  (Plan to play again)

4) Counter-Strike - Play this a lot during my time at RIT 2002-2007.  I was introduced to it by my floor mates on Gleason 6.  Our floor pretty much always had the sounds of gunfire and screaming from room to room about kills and near kills.  (Plan to play again)

5) The Lord of the Rings Online(TM) - (13 hours via Steam but I played before Steam integration as well) I started playing this maybe in 2011 I think at the insistence of a friend of mine.  I really enjoyed it for awhile and plan to play again but am a little stuck currently as the guy who invited me to play quit.  So I'm currently in a state where without help I am having trouble staying alive where my quest are telling me to go :(.  I play on the  X server as X.

6 )DiRT Showdown - Played this briefly after I got it free when I purchased my Ibuypower computer.  Issue I currently have is my Xbox controller I use for my pc doesn't stay calibrated making it very difficult to drive.

7) Total War: SHOGUN 2 - (10 hours) Came free with my PC I am finding that I like this I'm not addicted to it like I can get with other games.  I think it has something to do with the fact that I seem to stink at it.

8) Half-Life (I don't have remastered version) - I got this so that I could play Counter-Strike online.  I did try playing the single player games but I think I ended up having issues and giving up.  As this is considered one of the better games for PC I really should give it a try again.

9) Age of Conan: Unchained - US version -(51 minutes) Downloaded this one day not really sure why as I have invested quite a bit of time into Lord of the Rings Online(TM).  I played it for maybe ten minutes and haven't touched it since.  I might try it again at some point but probably not anytime soon.

 Probably won't try again:
  1. Uncharted Waters Online - (80 minutes) For some reason around the same time I downloaded Conan I tried this one as well.  The game is interesting but I really am thinking of staying away as I have enough other games to get through without trying to take on another MMORPG.  It was fun to set sail across the ocean though.
  2. Day of Defeat - Haven't tried this but don't feel bad as it came with my copy of Half life.
  3. Deathmath Classic - Haven't tried this but don't feel bad as it came with my copy of Half life.
  4. Half-Life: Blue Shift - Haven't tried this but don't feel bad as it came with my copy of Half life.
  5. Half-Life: Opposing Force - Haven't tried this but don't feel bad as it came with my copy of Half life
  6. Ricochet - I played this one or twice.
  7. Team Fortress Classic -  Haven't tried this but don't feel bad as it came with my copy of Half life. I did try Team Fortress 2 it didn't really pull me in maybe I'll try it again.

Shark Tank Episode 422

PITCH: Shell Bobbers
ABC Recap
I liked the concept of a bobber made out of a shell casing.  The issue for me is that I haven't fish in probably fifteen years or more.  Cool concept but unfortunately I probably won't be buying any anytime soon.

PITCH: Wicked Good Cupcakes
ABC Recap
These cupcakes were an appealing item I would consider buying a cupcake if I every saw one.  They looked pretty tasty and I also liked the idea of a cupcake in a jar.  The prices for the cupcakes seem reasonable probably after shipping they get expensive though.

PITCH: Tremont Electric
ABC Recap
The idea of a device that charges my device as I walk sounds pretty good.  The issue with this product for me is that it is very big.  I couldn't see me carrying this thing around just to charge my cell phone.

PITCH: The Mission Belt
ABC Recap
Belt looks pretty decent and I don't recall hearing this on the show but they donate a dollar of each sale to Kiva.  I think I would consider checking out one of these belts. I am not sure since I don't belt shop very often if they are reasonable priced or not though.  A quick search on Amazon confirms they are a little more expensive then a standard belt.  The additional price could account for the fact that these belt are supposed to  be awesome.  I would have to try one before I would be willing to buy one.

Of the items presented in this episode I my level of interest would be the following:
  1.  The Mission Belt
  2.  Wicked Good Cupcakes
  3.  Shell Bobbers
  4.  Tremont Electric
What do you think of the products do you agree or disagree with my ranking?

Shark Tank Episode 426

PITCH: Liddup
ABC Recap
I thought this was a pretty good idea if I were in the market for a cooler and there was one with these lights in the price range I would give it a chance.

PITCH: Echo Valley Meats
ABC Recap
Based on the Sharks reaction I would love to try some of this meat.  Maybe I will get a chance but otherwise really hard to review food I haven't tried.

PITCH: RootSuit
ABC Recap
I honestly just think this is a dumb product I can't see why I would buy one.

PITCH: Gobie H2O
ABC Recap
This is a pretty nice water bottle I could see me bringing this into work.  I don't totally trust the water where I work so I am currently bringing in filtered water from my house.  This works okay when I remember it and I'm not really thirsty.  It would be a lot easier to leave something like this at work.  I gather that there are competitors so I might have to consider those as well.

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:
  1.  Echo Valley Meats
  2.  Gobie H2O
  3.  Liddup
  4.  RootSuit

Shark Tank Episode 419

Every time I watch Shark Tank I try to give my impressions of the items presented on the show.  I'll leave rating the businesses to the Sharks as a regular guy all I care about is the products.

PITCH: Drop Stop
ABC Recap
I thought this was an okay product idea.  It does solve a "problem" for people.  For me though it is far to expensive for the problem it solves.  Maybe I'm just not messy enough to see the real value in this product.

PITCH: Traditional Fisherie
ABC Recap
If I saw lionfish on a menu I think I would be willing to give it a try.  I will admit I originally thought this lionfish issue was a scam to get me to try a new fish but the Wikipedia entry proves my gut wrong.  Now that I know that I could help the environment by eating this fish it does improve the odds that I would choose to eat it.  So even though the guys didn't get a deal with the Sharks hopefully they have raised awareness and people will consider eating more lionfish.

PITCH: Simple Sugars
ABC Recap
Being a guy I couldn't see myself buying this product.  I did consult with my wife to see if she that it might be an interesting item.  She does think that it would be something that she would consider trying.

I usually stick more to the products but I really enjoyed the presenter for this product!

PITCH: Coolwraps
ABC Recap
This is a product that I could see myself giving a try.  I am absolutly terrible at wrapping gifts and hate doing it.  This looked like it would be a product that would allow me wrap presents with ease and my gifts wouldn't look like they were wrapped by a child!

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:
  1. Coolwraps
  2. Simple Sugars (Might make a good gift)
  3. Traditional Fisherie (Not sure I will ever see it)
  4. Drop Stop (Not that big of an issue in my mind)

Shark Tank Episode 405

PITCH: Cozy Bug
ABC Recap
The idea of clothes that grow with your child seems like a decent one.  I remember as a child growing out of things all the time.  Also my son has very quickly moved from Newborn sizes into 0-3 Months sizes.  The one issue for me personally is I don't have any daughters so not a lot of demand for dresses around here.

Bottom line: I don't have any daughters so no demand for this product here.

PITCH: Wired Waffles
ABC Recap
I actually just recently started drinking coffee to get my caffeine instead of just drinking tea.  I haven't really jumped on the more alternative methods of getting caffeine.  My doctor would actually prefer I limit my caffeine some anyway so for me this product isn't a great fit.

Bottom line: Not supposed to consume more then 1 cup of coffee worth of caffeine.

PITCH: The Spatty
ABC Recap
I like the idea of a product that helps with not wasting things but I'm not convinced that I would have the patience for a product like this.  Being a man I couldn't use this product to get extra makeup out but I think it could come in handy.  But I think my bottom line is I have enough stuff to catch up on that I wouldn't waste time trying to save a few pennies using this product.

Bottom line: I don't wear makeup and am not sure I could really save enough money with this to try it.

PITCH: Marz Sprays
ABC Recap
This was an interesting idea although I don't know to many people who can't swallow pills.  I currently do not take any supplements and don't really intend to start anytime soon.

Bottom line: I'm not interested.

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:
  1. The Spatty (I could potentially use this for something I think)
  2. Cozy Bug (Maybe if I have daughter someday)
  3. Wired Waffles(Maybe if I was ever super tired)
  4. Marz Sprays (I don't see me trying these)
From this and previous episodes I've blogged about:
    1. Cordaroy's  (Thinking about buying)
    2. How Do You Roll
    3. Liz Lovely Cookies
    4. FuzziBunz
    5. Posture Now
    6. Proof Eyewear
    7. Travel HOODIE PILLOW
    8. Smartwheel
    9. Lose 12 Inches with Any 12 Workouts
    10. Baby Loves Disco (Could move up as kids get older)

    Shark Tank Episode 403

    PITCH: Liz Lovely Cookies
    ABC Recap
These cookies look delicious my wife who has to eat Gluten free is very interesting in trying them.  Using the company's website we found that a local Whole Foods was supposed to have them.  Unfortunately the Whole foods hasn't renewed there order in a awhile so no cookies bummer.

    PITCH:  Rock Bands
    ABC Recap
The leather bands that this guy was selling were interesting but I don't have much interest in such a product.  It seemed like the Sharks agreed with me and were more interested in the trademarks then anything.

    PITCH: FuzziBunz
    ABC Recap
As a parent who has a child in diapers I see the appeal of not having to buy a fifty dollar box of diaper every couple of weeks.  So far I have lucked out and my babies wonderful Grandparents have kept us well stocked.  Another appealing thing is not filling the landfills more the necessary.  Between diapers and diaper genie bags I really do feel like I am now contributing a lot of waste to my local landfill.  My wife and I are looking into at least giving these a try.

    PITCH:  Posture Now
    ABC Recap
My wife and I took lessons at Arthur Murray leading up to and for quite awhile after our wedding so I can understand any product that would help improve posture.  If my wife and I were still dancing a lot I think we would be really looking into buying one of these.

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:
    1. Liz Lovely Cookies
    2. FuzziBunz
    3. Posture Now
    4. Rock Bands
From this and previous episodes I've blogged about:
    1. Cordaroy's  (Thinking about buying)
    2. How Do You Roll
    3. Liz Lovely Cookies
    4. FuzziBunz

    Shark Tank Episode 417

    PITCH: Baby Loves Disco
    ABC Recap
This seemed like a fun product that would be something I would look into if my kids were the correct age to take advantage of such an event.  Currently this isn't a great fit for my family.  I can't remember what they said the price was but I thought it was reasonable.  Can't seem to see prices for events without entering email address.

PITCH: Lose 12 Inches with Any 12 Workouts
    ABC Recap
This product was interesting I like the idea of the workouts being targeted at certain heart rates and being different for different folks.  Its really hard to judge without giving some of his ideas a try though.

    PITCH: CellHelmet
    ABC Recap
I thought that at the very least that this would be a cheaper option then paying my cell phone provider for a similar service.  For me as a non smartphone user I don't think I need this product.  My phone isn't expensive enough to worry about.  I think this service could  be beneficial to other people.

    PITCH: Cordaroy's
    ABC Recap
This is a product that I really like the idea of and actually have a need for.  I currently have an old chair from Pier 1 that is starting to fall apart and we have been looking for a replacement.  These bean bags look like the could fill the void.  They look really comfy and the option to turn it into a bed is appealing as well.  One concern that I have is how hard is it to put the bed back into the bean bag.  If I do end up buying one a followup will be posted.  Anyone own one?

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:
    1. PITCH: Cordaroy's  (Thinking about buying)
    2. PITCH: Lose 12 Inches with Any 12 Workouts
    3. PITCH: Baby Loves Disco (Could move up as kids get older)

    I love Crocs Review

Recently I purchased a pair of Crocs from Amazon.com.  I will admit I was pretty skeptical that I would like them.  My wife purchased a pair many years ago and I picked on her about it.  Now I am a believer too.  The Crocs are:
    • very comfortable
    • provide a lot of support
    • easy to slide on and off
Basically if you are on the fence and want a comfortable pair of shoes I highly recommend.

    Beware Ibuypower Warranty

This is a warning to anyone who buys an iBuyPower computer.  It turns out that there warranty is pretty crappy ie if you need to ship the Desktop computer back after the initial 30 days you have to pay for it.  Compared to my experience with Dell this just seems quite terrible.

I really feel pretty dumb about this as well.  I originally ordered a computer from them in May of 2012 it arrive in June but the hard drives had fallen out during shipping so it didn't work at all.  Sent it back and got it back on around July 10th.  I was pretty excited to actually get to use it which was my big mistake.  Instead of trying to enjoy the computer I should have sent it back to get fixed right away or maybe just got a refund.  When I got it back the second time again the hard drives had fallen out during shipping and one of them doesn't always start when I boot the system.  At first I didn't mind this terribly but after a few months it gets pretty old to have to boo the computer on average probably like five times.

    Shark Tank Episode 420

    PITCH: Nuts 'N More
    ABC Recap
Obviously it is a little hard to pass judgement on a product that I was not able to taste.  However if the Shark's reaction is an indication then I would guess that this is a delicious peanut butter and almond butter that is also healthier.  My wife enjoyed that since she doesn't eat peanut butter it was good they had an alternative in Almond butter.  I think this would be something I would consider buying.

    PITCH: PsiBands
    ABC Recap
My wife actually gets motion sick at times so at first I was thinking this product sounded pretty good.  In fact my wife actually bought a similar product.  The advantages of PsiBands product over what my wife owns is:
    • they are adjustable
    • won't get water logged
    • come in different colors.
Listening to the women talk about how she thinks her product can cure cancer without really having any proof makes me think that her company isn't ideal to do business with.  So basically somewhat interesting product but sketch company.
    PITCH: Neo Innovations
    ABC Recap
I thought this was the coolest item that was presented on the show tonight.  If I had a tattoo and I wanted it removed I would consider looking into this product.  The biggest downside is of course their lack of information about whether the product is safe.

    PITCH: Jeska Shoe Company
    ABC Recap
The product was interesting I liked the idea of being able to buy one pair of shoes and pretend that it was like two or three.  I was really liking the idea and I think my wife was as well.  Then I heard that they cost like two hundred dollars and I my interest went away.

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:
    1. Nuts 'N More
    2. Neo Innovations (If I had a tattoo it would be a lot more likely)
    3. Jeska Shoe Company (Cool idea but pricey)
    4. PsiBands

What do you think do you agree or disagree?

From this and previous episodes episode 415 and 418.
    1. How Do You Roll
    2. Proof Eyewear
    3. Travel HOODIE PILLOW
    4. Smartwheel
    5. Nuts 'N More
    6. Green Garmento
    7. Pretty Padded Room
    8. Neo Innovations (If I had a tattoo it would be a lot more likely)

    Shark Tank Episode 416

    PITCH: Addison's Wonderland
    ABC Recap
My first impression was that this is a pretty nice looking bedroom for a little girl.  Everything was going pretty well until they mentioned the price.  That is when I realized that this stuff while nice was way expensive at least in my book.

    PITCH: Muddy Water Camo
    ABC Recap
I thought this item was pretty cool but honestly I don't hunt or take pictures of birds.  So for me the product is cool but useless.  If I ever did decide to bird hunting I would probably consider looking into this camouflage over traditional camouflage.

    PITCH: Hip Chixs
    ABC Recap
I'm male so this product would really fit into my life.  I did talk to my wife and she did like the way the jeans were designed.  She would have stayed interested if the price was better.

    PITCH: Proof Eyewear
    ABC Recap
These glasses do have a pretty cool look.  I also found the idea of wooden frames to be appealing.  I like the look as well as the idea of them being a little more sustainable than average glasses.  One thing I notice is that they all seem a little clunky maybe that is by design or maybe its a downside of the material.

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:

    1. PITCH: Proof Eyewear
    2. PITCH: Hip Chixs  (Mostly because my wife thought they were a decent idea)
    3. PITCH: Muddy Water Camo
    4. PITCH: Addison's Wonderland
What do you think do you agree or disagree?

From this and previous episodes episode 415 and 418.

    Shark Tank Episode 418

    PITCH: Gotta Have S'More
    ABC Recap
Hard to get a feel for a cupcake that tastes like a s'more through television.  Seemed like the cost was the biggest issue and I agree that it seemed expensive for a baked good.  I live on the East coast so to get one dozen of  these would cost $24.95(Usually 29.95) + $35(Shipping) = 59.95.  This comes out to about $5 dollars a muffin.  I think if the muffins were a little bigger the five dollars might seem okay but they are small.  I couldn't see myself being willing to spend 60 dollars to give them a try so I think I'm out.

    PITCH: How Do You Roll?
    ABC Recap
A lot would depend on how good this fast food Sushi actually is.  My wife and I both love Sushi and being able to get high quality Sushi faster then at a normal sit down restaurant was an appealing idea.  My wife also loved the idea of being able to customize it and get exactly what she wanted.  If I was ever near one I think I would be there.

    PITCH: Pretty Padded Room
    ABC Recap
This seems like a really great idea to me.  Feels like it would be a lot more convenient then going to see a real counselor.  One of the concerns that was pointed out by the Sharks did make me wonder a little bit.  The fact that the therapist were earning so much less then they normally could raised some red flags.  Since it is over the internet maybe they can make up a lot of the profit in the sheer fact of not having as much overhead though.  Seems like this would be an interesting option should one ever want to try therapy but doesn't feel like dealing with missing work etc.

    PITCH: Smartwheel
    ABC Recap
I really thought this was a pretty good idea.  Someday when my child is old enough to drive I hope there are systems in place to help keep him focused on the task at hand.  I think this would also be a great thing for companies to install in their cars and 18 wheelers.  Instead of relying on those how are my driving calls they would get reports about which drivers are dangerous and could lead to them being involved in litigation.

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:

    1. How Do You Roll
    2. Smartwheel
    3. Pretty Padded Room
    4. Gotta Have S'More
    From this and episode 415

    1. How Do You Roll

Shark Tank Product Impressions Episode 415.

    The Green Garmento
I thought this was an interesting product.  I like the idea of not getting a bunch of cheap plastic bags every time I pick up something from the dry cleaner.  The price seems pretty reasonable but I have no plans to go out and buy one.

    GRINDS
Seems like a product that could have a big market.  Not something I would buy as I prefer to drink my coffee and don't plan to take up chewing anytime soon.

    HOODIE PILLOW
At first glance the hoodie pillow seems ridiculous much like my first impressions of Snuggie which I will now admit I love my slanket so maybe it is a great idea.  But honestly I think the travel hoodie  pillow is a great product and if I was planning to fly a few times in the near future I honestly think I would consider buying one.

    My Cold Snap
Seemed like a pretty good idea seemed like it would work but I'm not really looking to purchase an item like this.  I also can't say that I am remotely interested in spending 24 dollars for 4 that seems pretty steep.

Of the items presented in this episode I think my level of interest would be the following:
    1. Travel Hoodie Pillow
    2. Green Garmento
    3. Hoodie Pillow
    4. Cold Snap
    5. Grinds

Review of my Ibuypower machine after around 5 months.

I purchased a computer from Ibuypower in May of 2012.  I think it took until July to arrive I was pretty excited having never really owned a computer that was actually ready to play newish type games.  I was pretty disappointed when I first opened the box and realized that the video card had fallen out during shipping and so had the hard drives.  After hooking everything back up and trying it, I soon discovered that the hard drives were toast.  I blame the company for that as I don't believe they were installed in a way that had any chance of surviving being flown across the country (they are in California and I'm in PA).

So after much excitement the next day I had to send it back :(.  When it arrived the second time I noticed this time they actually put some packaging material inside the case that they had not the first time.  This resulted in the Video remaining installed this time.  They also tried to install the hard drives more securely but they still fell out.  But this time I was in luck they still "worked".  One of the hard drives sometimes takes 2 to 5 attempts to detect on power up which is pretty annoying.

For awhile I have been able to use the computer I have played quite a bit of Civ 5 on it.  I was also finally able to turn some of the setting up for the game Lotro game looks awesome on a computer with a real video card.  My old Dell laptop had some kind of Intel on board thing which meant I had to play Lotro on min settings.

I tried installing Visual Studio on it around September the install seemed to go fine but soon after that it seemed like it would freeze every time I tried to make a system restore point.  At least I was able to back up my data though.  Not really sure if these are related.

Now just recently I starting having more issues like I rebooted and it would no longer load any video drivers.  I tried doing a System restore and crap blue screen of death.  I contacted Ibuypower and they were willing to have me ship back the system but I would have to pay for it!  Never had to pay to ship back any of my Dells.  Money is pretty tight right now so decided to reinstall Windows myself which got my networking components back up and running!  Still having some issues that I am trying at this time to work through by myself including:
    • Tried to check my backup drive caused a blue screen.  (I plan to try this again)
    • Just tried running a backup and that seems to have failed for some reason as well.
      • Could be a Microsoft Issue.

I would rank this computer a 2.5 out of 5 at this time.  When working its pretty nice but has really been a head ache.

    Update 2/1/2013
I have contacted tech support and they initially wanted me to send the computer to them.  I would have if I didn't have to pay for shipping.  I am also not convinced that it would come back in better shape as FEDEX seems to be trying to destroy it as it travels across the country.  So I emailed them back and they seem willing to work with me to try to figure out what isn't working.  The latest is they had me download Seagate's SeaTools and run the long generic test which I ran earlier and found that my backup drive failed the check.  This might explain why I got a blue screen of death when I ran chkdsk on it.  I am somewhat surprised that the drive that always starts when I turn on my computer is the one with the issue.  Hopefully I can get this thing working 100%.

IBuypower Tech Support Rating 3/5 (Right in the middle as they seem to be trying to help but so far we haven't fixed anything)
